Investment Opportunities for Economic Development and Diversification in Niger State Mining and Mineral Resources Sector
International Journal of Civil and Environmental Engineering Vol.?, No. 2026 pp. 14–22

https://doi.org/10.64823/ijcee.2601002

Niger State, often referred to as "the Power State," is endowed with vast mineral resources that offer substantial investment potential for Nigeria's economic diversification. This paper Niger State's mineral wealth and richness, emphasizing important reserves including iron ore, kaolin, gold, tantalite, and more, and evaluates the state's capacity to draw in both domestic and global investment. The review looks at current government incentives and policies for investors, including deferred royalties, exemptions from import and customs taxes for plant, machinery, and equipment used in mining operations, potential capitalization of exploration and survey costs, and state government infrastructure expansion. Challenges in the sector and recommendations for sustainable development were highlighted. with improved regulatory frameworks, enhanced security, and public-private partnerships, Niger State can become a mining powerhouse, contributing substantially to Nigeria’s GDP and job creation.

Experimental Assessment of Under-utilization of Wind Energy Capacity in Northern Nigeria. An Untapped Clean Energy Source That is Capable of Addressing Nigeria's Energy Deficiency
International Journal of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Vol.?, No. 2026 pp. 23–34

https://doi.org/10.64823/ijmme.2601003

Wind energy is one of the most viable renewable energy for future of clean energy source with full capacity of replacing non-renewable energy sources which is considered to be an obsolete source because of it negative impact to our environment. The amount of energy that is available in wind is so enormous with capability of eliminating energy deficiency of any nation if properly harnessed. Nigeria continues to face a severe electrical energy supply due to power deficiency with average national electricity generation far below estimated demand. This study experimentally assesses the under-utilization of wind energy capacity in northern Nigeria and evaluates its potential to address the country’s energy deficit. Using wind speed data and turbine performance analysis from selected high-potential sites, the research examines capacity factor, wind power density, and economic viability. Previous studies indicate that northern Nigeria possess economically viable wind resources for grid integration with promising capacity. Experimental data collected over the period of six months at 10m height showed an average wind speed of 4.19m/s and a mean wind power density of 52.1 〖W/m〗^2, with higher value recorded during the dry season months. Performance analysis of 1KW horizontal-axis wind turbine indicated a capacity factor of 19.6% and an estimated annual energy production of 858GWh of electricity annually, contributing about 2.4% to current national generation. The findings reveal that while northern Nigeria has viable wind resources, the level of deployment and utilization remains very low due to limited policy support, inadequate grid infrastructure, and lack of local capacity.

Machining: Past, Present and Future
International Journal of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Vol.?, No. 2026 pp. 1–13

https://doi.org/10.64823/ijmme.2601001

The study provides an in-depth analysis of the technological advancements in modern machining and its impact on the global industry. It traces the evolution from traditional subtractive manufacturing processes to emerging trends like AI-based predictive maintenance, adaptive machining, hybrid manufacturing, sustainable machining, and nanomachining for next-generation electronics and biomedical devices, including advancements in off-world manufacturing and space-ready materials. Challenges such as skill gaps in the workforce, affordability and accessibility of cutting-edge technologies, and the influence of developing nations on Industry 4.0 and 5.0 are explored. Results indicate that innovations in materials science, automation, and sustainable practices contribute significantly to precision, efficiency, and environmental sustainability in machining. The research highlights the importance of maintaining craftsmanship in the age of automation. Machining is positioned as a pivotal force and a reflection of the global shift towards a more integrated, adaptive, and sustainable industrial future.

Methods of Heat Transfer Enhancement for Metals Heat Treatment Applications: A Review
International Journal of Physical and Chemical Sciences

Heat treatment is an important part of materials and metallurgical engineering. It allows the microstructure and mechanical properties to be enhanced by means of regulated thermal cycles. In Nigeria, this process is an essential one for industries such as the automotive industry, oil & gas, and construction industries. It is however, often limited by out dated equipment, insufficient quenching management and low energy efficiency. This article shows the importance of heat transfer in the metallurgical process of heat-treatment and examines the different enhancement methods to boost reliability and efficiency. The enhancement techniques which include mechanical agitation, jet impingement, nanofluids, surface modifications, ultrasonic agitation, and combined methods are examined. A comparative analysis is presented, with a focus on relevance to Nigeria’s iron and steel industry. The discussions show that cheaper retrofits, like mechanical agitation and surface modifications provide the fastest return on investment; these are already being utilized in the industry. By contrast, high-capital, specialized techniques such as ultrasonic-assisted quenching, or more innovative options such as nanofluids, are more useful for specific applications where improved process control or unique thermal characteristics create the need for the added costs and complexity. Implementing these techniques will lead to a reduction in waste and improvement in energy efficiency, which will ultimately result in making our nation’s metallurgical industry more competitive on a global scale.
